YOUCAN Youth Society Website Redesign

Brief

The project was to redesign a non-for-profit website from start to finish, starting with evaluating the existing site all the way to coding the HTML and CSS for the redesigned version. (Project done in Web Design and Development 2)

Target Audience

YOUCAN provides services and programs for at-risk youth and relies on donations, sponsors, and volunteers to provide these services.

Solution

The new site is primarily directed towards the youth since they are the ones who will be utilizing the services that will help get them back on the right track. The site is now also easily accessible for all other users looking for specific information about YOUCAN and their services.

Collaborators

Michaella Yaceyko, Daniel Reed and Erika Guevara.

Process

1 As a team, we defined the context of the existing website along with the users, content and function of the current site. From there we made three personas of our target audiences.

2 Together we analyzed the existing sitemap and created a revised version with a rationale to explain the changes that we made. The major differences are found in the organization of the content. The most notable is the “Get Help” section, which provides the at-risk youth the information they are looking for without extensive searching.

3 Individually we created wireframes in Sketch to show our planned layout of the home and one interior page. The next step was to create a document with examples of inspirational websites. That led to making three style tiles which got narrowed down to one for the final design.
